When the words "deck" and "building" are seen together, the first thing that should come into your mind is consistency. A good deck has to be consistent regardless of the game plan. When you are planning to build a deck for regionals or a big event, you have to make sure your deck can perform well in all the round if you want to make it all the way. Lets look at some key factors to consider when building a deck and making it consistent.
1) Draw power
2) Toolboxing
3) Is it a mono strategy?
4) Defensive capability
5) Offensive capability
Draw power is an absolute necessity in every deck as drawing into your key cards are very important if you are aiming to consistently win every round. It is advisable to have atleast two different cards that gives you draw for a very low cost.
Toolboxing is basically having the ability to search your deck for your key cards. Especially important if you are running One Turn kill decks that require combo pieces. If you wish to make your deck consistent, then you should always run cards that searches your deck for your key cards at 4. By maxing out cards that search your deck,you can run less inconsistent cards in your deck and you will have lesser chance to draw cards that will get stuck in your hand.
Does your deck rely on a single way to win or does it have multiple ways? It is never advisable to build a deck that relies on a single strategy as if you were to get matched up against a deck that unintentionally counters your deck then you are going to have a hard time. For example, if you choose to play Shadowshades which rely on a center monster and you get matched up against Black dragons which has the ability to rest your monster then you are basically in a loosing end. It is key to have a deck build with multiple Boss monsters. And if all your Boss monsters focus on the same strategy then you should play cards that counters your counters which comes under "Tech" cards which we will be discussing in another article.
Next is having enough defensive capability. Shields are not the only defensive cards when it comes to Buddyfight. A defensive card can be in many shapes and forms. Like calling a monster via the Ambush ability is considered as a defensive capability. A deck must be able to defend without losing cards. What that means is that, the cards you play to defend must be able to defend without reducing your hand size. For example, Oni Assasins defend by using the ambush ability and Chaos defends by using the Chaos Drain ability. Both of which do not use up hand size. Thunder empire deck has arc dragon shields which draws back the card used for defending effectively making them free.
Lastly is the offensive capability of the deck. In the current Meta, any deck that you build must be able to do an average of 15 damage in one battle phase with multiple attacks. There is no point in having immense draw and search power when you cant deal the damage required to win. And another thing to consider is to have "Cheap" damage such as Overturn which give you additional 10 damage most of the time for a very low cost. In a format where almost every deck can perform One turn kills with ease, its important to have your deck built in a way that it can keep up with them.
In conclusion, Consistency is always the key to winning in any match. It is important to practice your deck untill you have mastered it and to a point where you wont do any missplays.
